The Village at Penn State Offers a Season of Nineteen Musical Events and Programs This Month

Music lovers certainly can find music programs and events for nearly every taste during the month of December at The Village at Penn State (VPS) in State College, Pa, a Life Plan Retirement Community. Some of the events and programs take place at The Village, whereas other programs are held elsewhere, at Penn State University, at local Churches, and at additional venues, to which residents may be transported by bus.

On December 1st, residents enjoyed a Social Happy Hour with Sentimental Journey, VPS’s Musical Community group in the Club Lounge.


Residents who loved vocal music enjoyed Musical Interludes with Luke Selker, Tenor, in the Community Room at VPS on December 2. Luke is the grandson of residents Jim and Alice W.

On December 3rd, Mosaic: Penn State School of Music’s popular student showcase, was presented at Eisenhower Auditorium on the PSU Campus.

Those who love Piano music were entertained the following day, on Monday, December 4th, when Weniy Xiong, a Penn State University doctoral candidate in Piano, presented a Musical Interludes concert in the Community Room at VPS.

On Tuesday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m., the Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra performed at Eisenhower Auditorium on the PSU Campus.

The PSU Concert and Symphonic Band performed on Wednesday, December 6th at 7:00 p.m. at Eisenhower Auditorium on the PSU Campus.

On Saturday, December 9th, at 1:00 p.m. the Nittany Valley Symphony Winter Holiday Ensembles performed at Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

Later that day, the 9th Annual Christmas with the Choral Society delivered stirring Christmas songs at State College Area High School in Performance Hall.

Sounds and Sweet Airs Continue to Delight in December

Ballet dancers performing on stageOn Sunday, December 10th, at 12:30 p.m., residents enjoyed music along with fabulous skating performances at The Happy Holidays Ice Show at the Pegula Ice Rink.

For Ballet lovers, the holidays would not feel complete without an opportunity to see The Nutcracker. Residents had the opportunity to see a performance on Sunday, December 10th, at Eisenhower Auditorium on the PSU Campus.

More orchestral music was offered by Masterworks Student Orchestra of Central Pennsylvania on Monday, December 11th, in the Community Room at VPS.

Those who craved the sounds of band music were thrilled to hear the Bellefonte Community Band Holiday Concert on Tuesday, December 12th, in the Community Room.

On Friday evening, December 15th, at 6:30 p.m., the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra Holiday Concert will be performed in Recital Hall on the PSU Campus.

For residents who enjoy participating in caroling, versus listening to others perform, there will be Christmas Caroling with Grace Lutheran Church in the afternoon on Sunday, December 17th, and later, at 5:45 p.m. with SC Presbyterian Church on December 17th, Sunday evening.

There will be another Musical Interludes Concert on Thursday, December 21st, 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at VPS.

Additionally, there will be a Carol Sing-Along with Hope Coder on Saturday, December, 23rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at VPS.

Ringing in the New Year

And finally, on Friday, December 29th, residents can start to ring in the New Year a bit early, with Singer/ Songwriter/ Piano player, John Thompson, who has been entertaining in the Centre Region for many years. Join him in the Club Lounge at 4:30 p.m. Appetizers and a glass of champagne will be served, compliments of resident services. Hats and noise makers provided.

All in all, it’s an exciting, fun filled, musical month at The Village this Holiday season!
